Following the recent news of the escaped of a three-footer container of Salmonella contaminated gizzards into the Ghanaian market, a senior lecturer and microbiologist in the Department of Biotechnology of the University for Development Studies, Dr. Courage Kosi Setsoafia Saba, has conducted a preliminary survey to assess the quality and safety of gizzards from some retail outlets in the Tamale metropolis of the northern region of Ghana. According to Dr. Saba, the series of calls he had received from close relatives amidst the growing fear of the consumption of gizzard by the general public was what instigated this preliminary survey to ascertain the microbiological quality of this part of birds that have been a delicacy to some Ghanaians. Coach and a member of the Leadership Growth and Alumni Network Impact of the Lead For Ghana (LFG), Mr. Livingstone Delali Agbo has said that graduates from the University for Development Studies top graduates from other universities with a huge number of applications for their fellowship programme. This, he said at a workshop held at the Tamale campus of the University for Development Studies to introduce the activities of the organization to present participants. There is a saying that everything happens for a reason. But that cannot be said about the just ended Afrocentric Week Celebration organized by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Nyankpala campus of the University for Development Studies. According to some students from this campus, they were not clear of what constituted the decision of their leaders to roll out the Afrocentric week celebration. This, was revealed in a survey conducted to evaluate and assess the Afrocentric week celebration where 62.9% of students who responded to the survey indicated that they had no knowledge of the objective of the program. According to this number of respondents, the council (SRC) failed to provide a theme for the Afrocentric week celebration. They added that the maiden program should have been introduced formerly at a gathering of students with the objective(s) clearly spelled. The National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS) of the University for Development Studies (UDS) intends to create a taxi station on campus. The station is intended to solve the issue of difficulties in transportation especially during weekends and in late hours of the night incase of emergencies. Mr. Ramid the Local NUGS president disclosed the intention of the council on Friday February 7 2020 on Radio Grin's "Time with the SRC". According to Mr. Ramid the council shall register and give tags to all taxis that will be at the station also address and contacts of drivers shall be collected for easy access to them incase of emergencies and incase a student leaves his item(s) in the car, also commercial vehicles that do not have a registered tag shall not be allowed to enter campus and shall not also be board by students as it will make students feel safe and secured . There seems to be lack of lecture theatres on the campus of UDS-NYC as students and lectures have to rush early to the lecture theatres in order to secure a class for their lectures. Upon our team investigations, we realised and also witnessed these activities for 3 consecutive times. Tuesday January 28 2020, students of Diploma in Agriculture Technology(DAT) and Bsc. Biotechnology and Molecular Biology(BMB) level 100 and 300 respectively,  were both having lectures at the same venue and time  (4-8pm) but different courses. Unfortunately for the BMB students, their lecturer delayed and that caused them loosing the class to the level 100 students since their lecturer was present already. Friday January 31 2020, same incident occurred at the auditorium with same level of students. Monday 3rd February 2020 the SRC/NUGS of UDS-NYC launched the much anticipated Afro Centric week. The launched was accompanied with an event dubbed Old Skuul in which the students populace dressed in their favourite 80s and 90s attire. Mary of Faculty Natural Resource and Environment  (level 100) was adjudged the nicest old school dressing of the day.  Authentic Gh of AGT won the craziest dressing of the day whiles Yogot was adjudged the funniest dressing of the day. Best collaborative dressing went to Fadila and Hajara both of Faculty of Social Change Communication and Cultural Studies.
