SRC Afrocentric Week Celebration handicapped in objectives

There is a saying that everything happens for a reason. But that cannot be said about the just ended Afrocentric Week Celebration organized by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Nyankpala campus of the University for Development Studies.

According to some students from this campus, they were not clear of what constituted the decision of their leaders to roll out the Afrocentric week celebration.

This, was revealed in a survey conducted to evaluate and assess the Afrocentric week celebration where 62.9% of students who responded to the survey indicated that they had no knowledge of the objective of the program.

According to this number of respondents, the council (SRC) failed to provide a theme for the Afrocentric week celebration. They added that the maiden program should have been introduced formerly at a gathering of students with the objective(s) clearly spelled. However, they were disappointed to have witnessed what they could described as one man’s inauguration which even took place on social media platforms. Even though, 8.6% of the respondents confessed that SRC’s publicity on the program was excellent.

However, it is possible to attribute the 42.4% of students who did not partake in the entire program to the poor planning of the event as indicated by 15.2% of the respondents.

Afrocentric Week Celebration. Speaking to Grin News on Tuesday evening, Miss Angelica Daakyire, the chairperson of the investigative body mentioned that the purpose of the survey is not to bastardize the councils or any individuals’ efforts of ensuring that students have entertainment as part of their stay on campus.

However, she stated that the current survey is among other series of survey which her team have planned to undertake in order to relay feedbacks from students to authorities or management of the school as well as students’ leaders.

Ending her submission, she pleaded with students to involve themselves with the activity by providing timely responses to any survey that will be released by her investigative body.
