Dr. COURAGE SABA MAKES A DONATION TO HIS ALMA MATER

A wise man once said "wherever you go and whatever ends you pursue, you must always fulfill the trust reposed in you by your nation, your parents and your alma mater."

Dr. Courage K. S. Saba, an alumnus and a lecturer of the University for Development Studies has made a fulfilment of the above quote by donating to his alma mater a hand washing device necessary for fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Senior Lecturer and Microbiologist at the Department of Biotechnology for sometime has been in the news through his invention, SabaWash.

SabaWash is a hand washing device which employs the use of one's feet in regulating the dispensing and flow of a liquid soap and water respectively.

According to the Microbiologist, most of the hand washing devices especially the popular 'Veronica bucket' could serve as transmission routes of microorganisms. These hand washing devices operates by opening the tap with the uncleaned hands and closing the tap again with the cleaned hands - he added.

He highlighted the break in transmission routes of microorganisms as one of the strengths of the SabaWash in comparison to the aforementioned hand washing devices.

According to him, after a similar donation to the Laboratory Department of the Tamale Central Hospital, he could not think of any other place where he could extend his kind gesture than the institution which nurtured him to who he is today.

He therefore considers his donation as a sign of gratitude and appreciation to the school for the support they have always given him.

Ending his speech, he mentioned that the fight against COVID-19 is a shared responsibility and as such donating an effective hand washing device like the SabaWash is his own way of supporting the fight.

Receiving the device on behalf of the Vice chancellor and management of the school was the PRO-Vice  chancellor Ing. Professor Felix Kofi Abagale.

Professor Abagale appreciated him for the kind gesture shown and added that management of the school will continue to support any staff or member of the institution who comes out with innovations like the SabaWash.
