COVID -19 :UDS LECTURER DONATES TO THE LABORATORY DEPARTMENT OF TAMALE CENTRAL HOSPITAL
In the early hours of today, the inventor of SabaWash, a Senior Lecturer and a Microbiologist at the Department of Biotechnology of the University for Development Studies, Dr. Courage Kosi Setsoafia Saba made a donation of his hand washing device, SabaWash to the Laboratory Department of the Tamale Central Hospital.
According to him, Tamale Central Hospital was chosen as the first point of donation due to a long term research collaboration he has with the hospital particularly the Laboratory Department. He therefore considers his donation as a sign of gratitude and appreciation to the hospital for the support they have always given him.
Speaking to Radio Grin 94.7FM news reporter, Dr. Saba mentioned that the fight against COVID-19 is a shared responsibility and as such donating an effective hand washing device like the SabaWash is his own way of supporting the fight.
Dr. Saba revealed that the birth of SabaWash stems from a survey by his research team on the effectiveness of the alcohol-based hand sanitizers available in most Ghanaian markets.
Fifty-four (54) percent of these alcohol-based hand sanitizers were not effective against tested microbes and thus present regular hand washing as the most recommended precautionary measure against SARS-CoV-2 - he said.
Explaining further what led to the birth of his innovation, he opined that for an effective hand washing, it is important for an individual to rely on a washing device which in itself will not contribute to the spread of microorganisms.

Mr. Abdulai Fataw the administrator at the Tamale Central Hospital received the hand washing device on behalf of the hospital. He also appreciated Dr. Saba for keeping them in mind and encouraged him to bring out more innovations like the SabaWash.
Mr. Fataw also used the platform to appeal to philanthropists and the government to support them with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) since the hospital lacks PPEs which are needed most at this crucial era of COVID-19.
