"To remove ignorance is an important branch of benevolence "

The Youth Initiative for Africa Development (YIFAD) together with their sister organization  Indigenous Knowledge Study (IKS)- Ghana earlier today have made a fulfilment of the above wise saying by Ann Plato when they collaborated to educate the inhabitants of Nantong Kurugu on the pandemic, COVID-19.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) public education and/or timely dissemination of information on the novel coronavirus is a key to combat the spread of the virus.
We settled on Nantong Kurugu, a rural community in the Nantong District in the Northern Region because it is quite far from the district capital and as such might not be privilege to firsthand information - the Founder of Youth Initiative for Africa Development, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Abdullai explained.

Mr. Abdullai mentioned how he was brokenhearted and sad when one of the participants asserted that they have been informed that SARS-COV-2 is inhibited by shea butter.

We have since relied on the eating and smearing of shea butter to get ourselves immune from contacting the virus' the participant added.

According to the executive director of the Indigenous Knowledge Study (IKS), Mr. Yussif Zakaria a lot has to be done in terms of disseminating information on the novel coronavirus to rural settlers.
He emphasized that he was astonished when one of the opinion leaders in the community asked if they cannot continue with group prayers during questions and answering session.

This is an indication that they are not abreast with government's ban on all social gatherings including church and mosque services - Mr. Zakaria emphasized.

Not only were participants enlightened on precautionary measures of avoiding the infection of COVID-19, they were also given hand gloves, liquid soaps, alcohol-based hand sanitizers and vitamin C to boost their immune system.

According to Youth Initiative for Africa Development, COVID-19 can be considered as a tragedy of the common and therefore demands the efforts of all to emerged as victors.
